My cover design reflects my everyday life, blending sound and heritage. I mapped out my family's ancestral home in Malaysia, where I spent part of my childhood running through the neighborhood, chasing after my older siblings and cousins as I didn't know how to ride a bike yet back then.
Fast forward to today, I recorded the sounds around me: the rhythmic thud of my running shoes hitting the ground, the soft chewing of my cats on my phone case, the patter of rain, and the hum of vehicles passing by on rainy nights. I translated these soundwaves into lines that form the map of my childhood.
Complementing the map are pieces of kain batik, a traditional Indonesian textile. This specific fabric is a family heirloom, linking me to my ancestry and cultural heritage. I added an outline of the grip of my hand, representing how I’ll carry the book, creating a sensory element that connects the design to touch.
This mix of sound, fabric, and the map of a place dear to my heart merges past and present. It grounds me in my values, reminding me of my roots and my role as a designer to impact others positively.
